About this listen
Sam Parker is a vampire with a gift so strong and substantial that she is invited to partake in a test for a place in the Grand High Master Vampire's private army. She finds that not only has the army never included a woman, but it has never included a Svente vampire; a breed that is regarded by the super strong Pagori breed and the hypnotically beautiful Keja breed to be too tame and human-like.
Most refuse to take her seriously, especially a Pagori commander named Jared who she craves in spite of herself. The Grand High Master, however, sees her potential and offers her the position of Jared's co-commander to help train the newest squad in time for the impending attack on his home. Sam has to demonstrate to Jared and the squad of chauvinists why it is incredibly foolish to underestimate a wilful, temperamental, borderline-homicidal Svente female.

Suzanne Wright is a new-to-me author and I devoured this book; I loved her writing style, the pace she set for her story and the gripping plot-line. The characters she created were complex souls that exhibited all the traits that I crave. I love that this book made me feel so many emotions; yes, I did growl like a wild woman at times in frustration and shed a tear or two but I won't tell you how often or when. However, I also chuckled out loud as well causing many an odd stare. ;-)
If you've read any of my reviews before, you will know that I enjoy a story more when the female main character is intelligent, resilient, resourceful, self-reliant and has plenty of gumption. Oh goodness me Sam ticked all my boxes and then some, she also has a great sense of humour, sarkiness and an innate sense of right and wrong that I love. Yes, I was nervous that our leading male, Jared, was a sexist, prejudiced alpha stereotype that didn't deserve our protagonist but Wright did that on purpose so that we can see (and celebrate) his character growth. *phew*
I downloaded the narration by Justine Eyre and P. J. Ochlan and enjoyed the variation that these actors brought to the duel point of view. My only criticism is that, to my English ear, Ochlan's version of Sam's London accent was rather reminiscent of Dick Van Dyke's in Mary Poppins.
Here Be Sexist Vampires was a bloody good book and although I was anxious whether I was going to like it I have already downloaded books 2 and 3 through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Due to the sexual scenes, colourful vocabulary and expletives throughout this story, I would recommend this book to adults who are not offended by content of this sort who love stories about kickass heroines and deserving alphas within the adult paranormal romance genre with story-lines about prejudice and fighting for what's right.
A Great Start to a New Series.
